LAD #14
Lincoln's first Inaugural Address has several important factors. The first important factor is that he points out, quoting from his own past speeches, that he does not wish to end slavery even though he is a republican. He then goes on to talk about the United States as a whole and he points out that when the United States was under the Articles of Confederation(confusion), the states were unreliable and failed as separate states. By signing the Constitution it was like signing a contract to stick together and the south was not able to just succeed from the United States. Also, Lincoln says that he does not wish to end acts in which slavery is concerned, such as the Fugitive Slave Act. Lastly, President Lincoln warns the slave states that if they do not choose to be peaceful about how to come up with a solution then Lincoln will use force to come up with one.
